Hurricane Maria made landfall Wednesday in Puerto Rico as a Category 4 storm, dumping at least 20 inches of rain and damaging many homes and churches. The storm is expected to cause extensive damage in Dominica before continuing toward Turks and Caicos and the southeastern Bahamas.
Phyllis Perkins Howard passed away 12 September in Nampa, Idaho, at age 83. She was a former missionary and director of Nazarene World Mission Society (now Nazarene Missions International) as well as a retired educator.

Virginia church opens doors to a hurting community, aims to be part of solution after Charlottesville
Nazarene Pastor Wynne Lankford believes his Chesterfield County, Virginia, church is not only a place of worship but also a center for the community. As Virginians attempt to recover from the recent Charlottesville violence, Lankford said the feeling in their part of Virginia is “tense” with a “racial divide.”
As a result of global Nazarenes’ generosity at the 2017 General Assembly, more than US$100,000 will be donated to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries for refugee support
